The tell you stopped noticing
A charging cable is the one modern thing left on the dash
The mount already puts your phone where your eyes are, in the gauge. The cable is the part that gives it away. It drapes off the phone, across the fascia, down to the lighter socket. On a 911 you have kept honest since the seventies, that wire is the last modern thing on the dash.
This kit removes it. A MagSafe-compatible induction charger sits in the mount head and powers the phone where it rests. The wire runs out of sight to the 12V socket. From the driver's seat, nothing crosses the dash. It still looks stock. It just charges now.

Read before you order
This is the upgrade, not the mount
The aluminum holder is not in this box. This is the charging retrofit only, for owners who already run, or are buying, the Rinashi 911 gauge phone mount. It fits that mount and nothing else: air-cooled 911, 1965 to 1998, 964 and 993 included.
The 17mm ball retrofit kit swaps the mount's magnetic head for one that seats the induction charger on the standard 17mm ball joint. You are not gambling on a generic charger clamped to the fascia. This part is cut to sit on the mount you already own. MagSafe iPhones snap to the puck; for any other phone, the steel adapter ring from your mount kit grips it the same way.
Don't own the mount yet? Add the 911 gauge phone mount first, then this kit completes it.

Wire it once
Powered from the 12V socket, still fully reversible
Plan on about five minutes on top of the mount. Swap the head with the 17mm ball kit, click the charger onto the ball, then route the USB cable behind the dash to the slim 12V cigarette-lighter socket in the box. Slim, so it does not hog the lighter. No drilling, no splicing into the loom.
It comes back out the same way. Unplug the socket, lift the charger off the ball, and the mount returns to its plain magnetic head; the OEM gauge still presses back in exactly as it came out. Nothing drilled, nothing glued, on a dash you kept original for decades.

Don't own the mount yet?
This kit charges the Rinashi 911 gauge phone mount — the aluminum holder that locks to your factory fuel-gauge or clock housing, held by physics, not adhesive. MagSafe phones snap on, and it sits where your eyes already are. Buy the mount first, then this kit takes the cable off the dash.
